National Teaching Awards
In 2005 Mrs Dorothy Coates, Vice Principal, won a distinction in the Lifetime Achievement category of the Teaching Awards, at the NI finals in the Waterfront Hall in Belfast.
In 2006 Mr Alastair Mackay, Principal, was the overall winner in the Headteacher of the Year category, winning a trip to London for the Gala Final and a trip to Boston, USA to represent Finaghy PS at an international conference.
NI Winner, Kelloggs Breakfast Club Awards 2006
As one of the first, and probably the biggest Breakfast Club in Belfast, we received this prestigious award along with resources for the club. Each morning we serve a healthy breakfast to more than 80 children in our dedicated cafeteria. Working parents drop the children off at 8.00am and head on to work, whilst many pupils come along just because they enjoy it!
Extended Schools' Good Practice Award
In 2007 we won a substantial grant award from the Department of Education in recognition of the success of our extended services at Finaghy Campus - Breakfast Club, Daycare Centre, SportsZone and Community Programmes. We use the funds to develop and enhance our services, plus we work with other schools who wish to gain from our experiences.
British Embassy International Exchange Grant
In 2007 we were awarded funding and resources to facilitate a partnership programme with an elementary school in Berlin. To date we have had staff visiting both Berlin and Belfast and in June 2007 15 pupils travelled to take part in our SPRINT programme (Sporting Partners Representing International Teamwork). In 2008, we will be playing host to pupils from Germany.
Cleaning Supervisor of the Year
In September 2008 Mr Timmy Courtney (Caretaker) was runner-up in the final of the NI Cleaning Supervisor of the Year. He was presented with his award at Stormont by the British Institute of Cleaning Sciences. The award was open to schools, colleges, hospitals and businesses. Timmy is a key member of our team at Finaghy Campus and often goes above and beyond the call of duty to make sure the school and the Campus always looks its best.
Action Cancer Health Action Award
Lauren and Ebony went to BBC Blackstaff studios to pick up our Action Cancer Health Action Silver Award. They also had a tour of one of the studios and took part in a healthy living quiz. Finaghy is very proud to be one of the few schools to pick up this award and appreciate all the work that the pupils, parents and teacher put in to keeping our school healthy.
